Are you a Garbage Truck?

In my new work position, I travel. I’m only on my second assignment and with every assignment comes new experiences. Just when I think I’m getting the hang of it, just when all seems to be coasting along, here comes trouble. But, I missed the call and hadn’t even realized it. Hours later, I heard my phone vibrate and went to check it. I’m laughing because just as the devil was sending one of his minions to tear down my confidence, God had already put up a roadblock. I’ve had dealings with this minion before. This control demon that wants to tear down another’s confidence. God showed them that He has all the power. He kept me out of the loop of a situation by not even allowing me to be aware of it. Looking back, it makes me wonder, how many times I answered the phone when God had roadblock already in place?

My answer to that question is easy – too many to count. Many moons ago, I felt obligated to speak to someone that I knew meant me no good, but because I felt it would be wrong to ignore them, I allowed myself to be led onto an avenue of hurt and despair. What I’ve grown to know is that I don’t have to engage in someone’s negativity. I owe myself that. Loving yourself doesn’t mean that you must be the doormat for someone else. Being a Christian doesn’t mean that I allow you to talk to me any ole kind of way. What I know now beyond a shadow of a doubt that as the daughter of THE King, I am worth more than someone else’s negativity.

Sometime ago, someone gave me a story that contained the Law of the Garbage Truck. The “law” reads: "Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of rubbish, filled with frustration, bursting with anger, and packed with disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump it all on you, don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be glad you did. I assure you.” (author unknown)

Here is what we need to remember. You are more than garbage. You deserve more. You are the child of THE King. Galatians 3:26: “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Many countries have members of the royal household. We have been inundated with stories of the arguments between the England princes. But, when you are true royalty, you don’t have to argue with people over whom you are or fight for position that is already yours. Galatians 4:7: Therefore, you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.” The King has no favorites among His children. He loves us the same. Romans 8:14-17: “14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

Knowing all of this, then we must stop answering when people call that we know mean us no good. They are being used as a distraction and some of them don’t even realize it. Don’t allow yourself to be used to fulfil the devil’s wishes. Don’t be the garbage truck.
