"16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence." Colossians 2: 16-23 (NIV)
As I was fixing dinner last night, God gave me another viewpoint of Colossians 2:16 -23. What God told me was to write 10 things that I know God loves about me. So simple but for some people it will be so hard because of how bad we judge ourselves. We sometimes can't think on the things that we love about ourselves. This will call on an individual to stop analyzing and really start to think about the things that God loves about us. These can vary from things like He loves my smile or He loves that I’m a hard worker or He loves that I get up early in the morning to spend time with Hi. They can be very deep things like He loves that I preach His Word, He loves that I follow His commandments or it could be very simple like He loves me.
Before you go to write these 10 things, take a count of 10 with a deep breath in between each account and clear your mind and your soul and really think about what God loves about you. What is it about that intimate time between you and He where no one else exist and time stands still for those few minutes will you get to have His undivided attention? Most people may think that’s a crazy thought but then the actuality of it is that it’s not.
That uncompromised time is so very special to build a relationship and the bond between you and God. It is the re-connection, the reaffirming, the undisputed love with no other. So take your count of 10 with a breath between each count releasing all toxins, all thoughts, all emotions, everything with each breath. Concentrate solely on your relationship with Christ. It helped me to close my eyes and count so that I wouldn’t be distracted by what was around me and I could focus solely on God. Maybe you don’t need that but if you do, use it. You will be surprised at what your list looks like. Happy focusing!
