A Lesson from Matthew 22 – Part III - My Inner Circle

Matthew 22:15-22 NIV: 15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” 18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” 21 “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” 22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So, they left him and went away. Reading this verse, I see a couple of things here. Today, lets address another of them in verse 18 "But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?" Baby, you better know who is around you! I'm reminded of an old song by Whodini - Friends, released in 1984, the lyrics asked the question of do you have friends that you can depend on. Don't take for granted that people are in your life to be your friend. Know if they are there to edify or destroy you. "1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God," (I John 4:1-2). If you have not, then pray for discernment, the ability to tell the difference between truth and error. The ability that helps you judge the spirits around you, so you can see the truth for yourself. Discernment is given by the revelation of Jesus and developed through righteous and prayer. (Hebrews 5:11-14). If you are not in a bible-based church, flee now. Find a man or woman of God that has been ordained by God to shepherd His people. Don't stay attached to a building or a group of people (be they family or not) because of history and tradition. Go where you can be taught the Word of God. Where you can grow and walk the path that He has illuminated for you. Know them that labor among you (I Thessalonians 5:12). Know the spirit by the spirit. Be A Blessing & Not Just Blessed
