Have you really given yourself away?

I was listening to “I Give Myself Away” by William McDowell. Really listening to the lyrics.

“Here I am, here I stand, Lord, my life is in your hands. Lord, I’m longing to see Your desires revealed in me.”

His desires. Have we ever really thought of what God’s desires are for us? Have we ever really thought of the storms, battles, trials, mess, and dare I say whippings we would take because we choose God? Being a Christian is not in title only. Those that walked this earth with Him, the 12 Disciples, were beaten, beheaded, tossed to and fro. Nothing is different for the modern day Christian. Your beatings may be the loss of material things. Your beheading may come at work when the boss yells at you for what wasn’t your mistake. And, the tossing. Those are the struggles of life.

“Take my heart, take my life as a living sacrifice. All my dreams, all my plans, Lord, I place them in Your hands.”

But, knowing all of this. Knowing I will be crucified for Christ’s sake. Knowing I will be schemed against, yelled at, ridiculed. I place my life in Jesus’ hands to do with as He pleases so God gets the glory. So others will see that He reigns supreme. So, the adversary knows that he can’t win, he won’t win. Whatever road I thought I was going to take, whatever way, I thought I was going to walk, my plans mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Only, God’s way.

“My life is not my own, to You I belong, I give myself, I give myself to You.”

This vessel that is seen by others, belongs to you. Freely, I give myself to you. Freely, I bow at your feet.

I was watching tv some months ago and I watched this man call another his Lord. The other man was short. The first man went on all fours so the shorter man could stand on his back and climb on his horse. This happened after his confession to the shorter man. It was his physical sign that he meant what he said. He was willing to dirty himself so the shorter man, his lord, could accomplish a task. If I’m giving myself away to God and allowing Him to use me as He pleases, then shouldn’t I willingly get on all fours so He accomplish whatever task is needed... be it a task that helps me or another?
